Some tips for your excursions

Hiking Punta Cana Tips

Before you set off on your Caribbean hike, we’d like to offer you some tips to ensure you’re fully prepared:

  • Comfortable footwear: Make sure you have comfortable footwear that’s suitable for hiking, as some trails include uneven terrain.
  • Sunscreen and Insect Repellent: As you’ll be spending time outdoors, it’s essential to bring sunscreen and insect repellent to ensure a comfortable experience.
  • Water and Snacks: Make sure you carry enough water to stay hydrated as well as energy snacks to recharge your batteries during the hike.
  • Local Guide: Consider hiring a local guide who knows the area you’re visiting, as they’ll provide valuable information about the local flora, fauna and history.

So… which route are you up for?

1. Parque Nacional del Este in Bayahíbe

Hiking Punta Cana Parque Nacional del Este

Just a short drive from Punta Cana, the Parque Nacional del Este in Bayahibe offers trails that wind through lush tropical forests on their way towards breath-taking coastal views.

Get ready to discover native flora and fauna as you immerse yourself in the area’s rich biodiversity.

From our Princess Hotels in Bávaro you can drive to the Parque Nacional del Este in about an hour along the Coral Highway, which offers both stunning views of the local landscape and a foretaste of the natural wonder that awaits you.

This is a must-see destination for nature lovers.

On arrival at Parque Nacional del Este, you’ll be immersed in a diverse ecosystem that ranges from tropical rainforests to pristine beaches. You’ll discover an abundance of wildlife that includes colourful birds, exotic butterflies and endemic plants.

One of the high points of the excursion might be a visit to Saona Island. In this part of the park turquoise waters and white sand beaches offer a welcome rest after your hike.

2. Ojos Indígenas Eco-Trail in Punta Cana

Hiking Punta Cana Ojos Indígenas

Immerse yourself in a natural oasis along the Ojos Indígenas Eco-Trail, a sanctuary that’s home to crystal clear lagoons and a wide variety of flora.

Walk among palms and other indigenous trees as you connect with the purest essence of the Dominican Republic.

Los Ojos Indígenas is located approximately 30 minutes from our Princess Hotels in the Dominican Republic, in the direction of the airport, within what is known as the Punta Cana Resort and Club, a private estate inside which this natural park forms part of a private conservation area.

Experience the magic of nature on the Ojos Indígenas Eco-Trail, a hidden gem in Punta Cana that immerses you in a world of serenity and natural splendour. This eco-paradise features a network of crystal clear lagoons fed by natural springs.

The limpid, crystalline waters reflect the lush greens of the surroundings, creating a fairy-tale landscape in which indigenous flora and fauna add layers of colour and life every step of the way. As you walk along a trail that meanders through the reserve you’ll encounter a great diversity of indigenous tropical trees, exotic plants and birds.

Peace and serenity envelop you here, creating a perfect environment in which to commune with nature. Highlights of the excursion include the “Ojos” or lagoons, bodies of water fed by underground currents that invite you to swim and refresh yourself in their crystalline waters. The sensation of diving into these lagoons surrounded by lush tropical vegetation is simply magical.

We recommend you spend at least half a day in order to fully absorb the beauty of Los Ojos Indígenas. If you wish to swim the lagoons, be sure to bring your swimming costume and a towel to enjoy this refreshing experience to the fullest. Also, don’t forget your camera or phone, as you’ll want to capture the natural beauty that surrounds you. Every corner of Los Ojos Indígenas is worthy of being immortalised.

By the way, here’s a tip: if you’re travelling with people who don’t wish, or are unable to make the climb on foot, there’s also the option of making the trip in an off-road vehicle. Get ready for an unforgettable experience!

4. Eco Park Punta Cana in Nisibón

Hiking Punta Cana Eco Park Nisibón

Eco Park Punta Cana is a natural treasure that combines nature and biodiversity. Explore trails that lead you through dense forests and discover the rich cultural heritage of the region.

5. The Cave of Wonders in La Romana

Hiking Punta Cana Cueva Maravillas Romana

Though a little further away, the Cueva de las Maravillas (Cave of Wonders) in La Romana offers a unique underground hiking adventure in which you can wonder at stalactites and stalagmites while observing fascinating rock formations.

The Cueva de las Maravillas, located in La Romana, an hour and forty-five minutes from our Princess Hotels in Punta Cana, is a fascinating cave system that immerses you in the prehistoric history of the Dominican Republic.

The cave, more than 500 metres long, is a visual testimony to antiquity in which carefully placed lighting highlights the rock formations to create a spectacle of light and shadow.

Possibly the most impressive aspect of the Cueva de las Maravillas is its connection to Taino history. The cave walls are adorned with rock art, providing a unique window into pre-Columbian indigenous culture. Each image tells a story and allows you to step back in time and imagine the lives of the island’s original inhabitants.

In order to get the most out of the experience, we recommended you take the tour with a local guide. These experts will not only guide you safely through the cave system, but also share fascinating stories and facts about the geological formation and cultural significance of the caves.
