Surfing
Fuerteventura is a paradise for surfers, wind surfers and kite surfers. The most popular beaches for practising this water sports are: Sotavento, Costa Calma and the beaches within the Parque Natural de Corralejo nature reserve.
Specially from mid-May to mid-September, the weather is ideal for surfing since the wind blows strongly and the temperature of the water is especially warm during those months.
Fuerteventura features 150km of littoral, and many of these trails are totally deserted, which makes it the ideal sport for surfers who are usually worried of bumping into a swimmer while they are practising their favourite sport.
Between Costa Calma and Jandía, kite-surfers and windsurfers have divided up the territory: this is a very coveted stretch because of its waves, the wind and the tranquillity that it offers.
This area is best suited for surfers, specially La Pared beach, since there are no touristy centres surrounding the area. There are low gusts of wind, but the waves reach a considerable height specially during winter.
The southeast coastline of the island shows good conditions for learning this kind of sport. To the south of Costa Cama, there is a lagoon with very tranquil waters where there is no risk of being dragged to deep waters.
