Visit the exotic animals at Maroparque

The Fundación Maroparque, dedicated to the rescue of exotic animals from La Palma, is located in the municipality of Breña Alta. The little ones can look at snakes, crocodiles, titi monkeys, peacocks… even albino kangaroos!

General admission costs €12.50 (€7.90 for residents). There is a discount for children under the age of 12: €6.50 for general admission and €4 for Canary Island residents. Admission is free for children under the age of 3. The opening hours are Monday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00.

Step inside a galleon at the Naval Museum

Would you like to visit a galleon? Then the Santa Cruz de La Palma Naval Museum is a must-visit. The museum’s location is an authentic immersive experience. It is located inside a life-size reproduction of one of Christopher Columbus’s ships, the Santa María.

On Saturdays, children over the age of seven can attend the workshops given by the guides to learn about the history of La Palma with the sea over the centuries, from the time of the Aboriginal people to the present day. It has an impressive collection of objects related to sailing, including ships, maps, navigation instruments and old weapons.

General admission costs €4.50, €2 for residents and children under the age of 12 go free. Opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00 and 16:00 to 18:00.

Immerse yourself in the depths of La Palma in Caños de Fuego

The Visitor Centre at Las Cavities Volcanicas Caños de Fuego offers children the opportunity to explore one of the natural wonders of La Palma: the volcanoes. Located in Las Manchas, the centre has privileged views of its most recent volcano.

The children can learn everything about volcanoes inside and enter the entrails of the island by taking a guided tour of a lava tube known as “Cueva del Vidrio”.

General admission is €8, €4 for Canary Island residents, and children under 12 go free. The opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00, and Monday from 10:00 to 15:00.

Visit an archaeological site in the El Tendal Archaeological Park

Located next to one of the most important archaeological sites in La Palma, the El Tendal Archaeological Park allows you to explore the lives of the Benahoritas (aborigines from La Palma).

The centre has a dramatised video mapping installation on the customs and rites of the first settlers, as well as an exhibition with a large number of artifacts found during the excavations.

For the most adventurous, the centre’s guides offer a guided tour of the archaeological site, which will make the youngsters feel like Indiana Jones for the day.

Whale watching at Tazacorte

Did you know that the municipality of Tazacorte is known for having the best climate on the island? Take advantage of the good weather with your family and climb aboard one of the boats that leave from the port. If the occasion allows, children will be able to enjoy the marine fauna of La Palma such as dolphins, turtles and whales.

On the other hand, you’ll also have the chance to visit one of the best hidden gems of La Palma: La Cueva Bonita. A geological formation that was used to harbour pirates and is only accessible from the sea.

Explore space at Roque de Los Muchachos

The Roque de Los Muchachos Visitor Centre is the ideal place to discover the universe. Together with one of the best observatories in the world, the centre offers a totally immersive and interactive experience where the youngest family members can feel like astronauts for a day.

Its facilities include a virtual reality room where you can observe the cosmos, as well as different interactive tables that will delight the whole family. There is also a real astronaut suit on display and the possibility of doing a guided tour.

General admission is €15, €7.50 for Canary Island residents, and children under 12 go free. The opening hours are Monday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:30 in summer.
