On the 19th of June last the Grand Bavaro Princess, Princess Family Club Bavaro, Punta Cana Princess, Caribe Deluxe Princess and Tropical Deluxe Princess hotels joined forces in a mission of love and solidarity.

As in previous years, we made our way to the Divina Providencia Nursing Home in Higüey laden with donations collected thanks to the invaluable generosity of our guests, staff and, of course, the company itself, and supported as always by the NGO Pack for a Purpose, which helps us give voice to our activities.

This noble act is part of our Princess and You 360 social programme, the aim of which is to make a positive impact in our community.

Bearers of hope and joy

In the early hours of the morning a small group of volunteer hotel staff set off for Higüey with one aim in mind, to bring hope and joy to those who need it most, the elderly of our community.

On arrival we were welcomed by the lovely Sister Ciriaca, a beacon of light and love and a truly admirable person who is an example for all who have had the pleasure of meeting her.

Together with a dedicated group of volunteers and nuns, she cares for the 40 elderly people who live in the home. Sister Ciriaca is not the only one, however; all the staff are extraordinary in their ability to provide not only care but also a sense of family and belonging.

The joy in their eyes when they saw us reminded us why these visits are so meaningful for everyone.

A donation for the elderly

The various donations included:

• Non-perishable foodstuffs
• Personal hygiene products
• First aid items

While the most valuable item we brought with us was our time and attention, in return we received a true lesson in helping and serving others.

As on other occasions we spent some very special moments with the residents, chatting and sharing stories, and every smile, every look of gratitude for the visit and the company, every squeeze of the hand filled our hearts.

This was a deeply moving moment full of humanity and empathy. Just seeing the familiar faces that welcome us every year with the same joy fills us with satisfaction and motivates us to continue with our work.

We especially remember Doña Ángela, an old lady who always welcomes us with a new anecdote and a sparkle in her eyes that lights up the whole room. Or the endearing elderly couple who did not hesitate to remind us that they are still married and whose laughter is contagious and capable of dispelling any cloud of sadness – a living example of eternal love!

There’s no doubt that these visits enrich us and remind us of the importance of caring for and appreciating our elders.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind our future guests that these charitable actions are an integral part of our mission as Princess Hotels & Resorts.

Throughout the year we organise at least three charity events in which our guests can participate. In addition to helping the nursing home, we run a toy drive for local children and a school supplies drive for school children. Guests can participate in as many programmes as they wish.

At present we are immersed in the school supplies campaign, and when Christmas approaches we will begin collecting toys for children. We invite our future guests to join in these initiatives at any time of the year. If you wish to collaborate, please leave donations and gifts at the customer service department of any of our hotels.

We are deeply grateful to all those who make these actions possible. Together, we will continue to bring hope and joy to those who need it most, thereby strengthening the bonds of our extended family at Princess Hotels in the Dominican Republic.
