Did you know that Fuerteventura is a paradise for those looking to enjoy good weather? Known as the island of eternal spring due to its pleasant weather year-round, the temperature in Fuerteventura makes it the ideal destination for those looking for the tropical feel of the Caribbean without leaving Europe.

If you are planning to visit the second-largest island in the Canaries, this blog offers a complete guide on the climate of Fuerteventura, its temperature, and other aspects to keep in mind to make the most of your holiday.

Keep reading and take note!

Average temperature in Fuerteventura

each Fuerteventura

It’s no surprise that the island is known for its good weather. The average temperature in Fuerteventura ranges between 18º C and 24º C, with an arid subtropical climate. Thanks to the trade winds and the lack of high mountains moderate temperatures are constant throughout the year, making it an ideal destination for enjoying its beaches and outdoor activities at any time of year.

However, one meteorological phenomenon of the Canary Islands should not go unmentioned: the Calima. It’s when the wind blows from the Sahara, bringing fine dust to Fuerteventura. Temperatures soar, at least in summer, humidity drops, the sky turns orange and visibility is limited. During heavy sandstorms it is recommended to drink lots of water and those in a high-risk category should spend as little time as possible outdoors. The frequency of Calima in Fuerteventura can vary from year to year. However, generally speaking, Calima occurs a few times a year and it typically lasts for a few days each time.

Spring in Fuerteventura

Spring in Fuerteventura is generally sunny, with the average temperature ranging from 23º C to 25º C and a moderate wind. This season’s weather is perfect for windsurfing, or scuba diving in well-known locations like Morro Jable and discovering the fascinating underwater world that lies beneath the surface.

Summer in Fuerteventura

The summer months in Fuerteventura, between June and September, are the peak season for tourists. It’s the warmest time of the year, with daytime temperatures between 26ºC and 29ºC. The Atlantic also reaches its highest temperature and can be as warm as 22ºC.

At the same time, the trade winds get stronger. This makes even high temperatures feel pleasant, and surfers can enjoy the best wind and wave conditions.

Autumn in Fuerteventura

Autumn in Fuerteventura is pleasant, even during the months of October and November, thanks to an average temperature of around 23º C. Even in the autumn months, it hardly ever rains. According to statistics, there is an average of one rainy day per month.

If you’re thinking about a romantic getaway for two, there are usually fewer tourists in autumn. During these months, the weather conditions are perfect for enjoying the best sunrises and sunsets in the Canary Islands, like the one in the photo, taken from our Club Jandía Princess hotel.

Winter in Fuerteventura

There’s no real Winter in Fuerteventura. During the day, temperatures vary between 18°C and 22°C, and the water temperature is around 18.5°C.

Since Fuerteventura, as already mentioned, has no high mountains, it’s one of the Canary Islands with the least rainfall. If it does rain, it’s usually between October and March and then only for a maximum of two days per month.

This makes Fuerteventura the ideal destination to escape the winter cold in Europe and enjoy the beaches.

Nights can be a bit cooler, with temperatures sometimes falling below 15° C, so be sure to pack a fleece or a light jacket.

Furthermore cloudy and not so hot days are perfect for taking any of the hiking routes the island has to offer, such as climbing to the Pico de la Zarza and enjoying its incredible views, or discovering its volcanic past with a visit to the crater of Calderón Hondo.

Climate and average weather in Fuerteventura

verage temperatures in Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura doesn’t have a microclimate like some other Canary Islands. Therefore, the above average temperatures apply to the entire island.

In conclusion, Fuerteventura is a destination where the weather’s just right at any time of the year. The island also offers lots of nature, a wide range of activities and last but not least impressive beaches. Ready to visit?
