If you are planning to spend a few days in the Canary Islands, one of the things you certainly can’t miss is the beauty of our landscapes under the sun that sets on the horizon. It’s a magical moment that you can share with your loved one during a romantic getaway, or with your family, while you explain to the little ones what the sunset is, and create a lasting memory they’ll treasure.

Below you’ll find some of the best places to watch the sunset in the Canary Islands. Wherever you are, there is a perfect place to watch the sunset, take a look and choose your favourite spot. And if you already have one and it’s not included, tell us! and we’ll add it to the list.

The Dunes of Maspalomas – Gran Canaria

An immense sea of sand floods the south of the island of Gran Canaria stretching along approximately 404 hectares. It is a Protected Natural Area, designated as Special Natural Reserve, so it is extremely important to respect it. The land offers outstanding views… so always remember to respect and preserve them 🙂

Atardecer en Playa Maspalomas

Roque Nublo – Gran Canaria

Inside El Nublo Rural Park, this rocky monolith is one of the most iconic symbols of the island. It offers spectacular views, especially at sunset.

Agaete, a fishing town in Gran Canaria

In the northwest of Gran Canaria, open to the Atlantic Ocean, this village offers beautiful contrasting landscapes, where the blue of the sea and the green of the vegetation intertwine along several kilometres towards the centre of the island. A sunset with a special charm.

El Roque Beach, in Moya – Gran Canaria

A semi-urban beach with strong waves that gives you the opportunity to enjoy both the sunset and the murmur of the waves breaking against the rocks.

Roque de los Muchachos – La Palma

At an elevation of 2,423 m above sea level, it is the highest point on the island of La Palma. Its viewpoint offers a spectacular view of the crater of La Caldera de Taburiente. The sky in this place is one of the best in the world for astronomical observation, and that is why the International Astrophysical Observatory of El Roque de los Muchachos is located here. It can be visited some Saturdays by prior appointment (only in July and August).

Atardecer en el Roque de los Muchachos

Atardecer en el Roque de los Muchachos

Los Andenes viewpoint, La Palma

This is another viewpoint from which visitors can marvel at the incomparable greatness of nature in its pure state. Located at an altitude of 2,000 meters, the riverbed of the Barranco de las Angustias Ravine and the Integral Reserve of the Pinar de Garafía can be observed almost entirely.

Tindaya Mountain – Fuerteventura

A mountain located in the municipality of La Oliva. At 6 km from the Atlantic Ocean, it is estimated to be 18.7 million years old and is known for being an area of high archaeological value.

Las Calas del Cotillo – Fuerteventura

The ideal place for relaxation and contemplation. The turquoise waters, the white sand and the orange color of the sunset are mixed at twilight, watered by the soft murmur of the low waves at the beach, resulting from its horseshoe shape that forms a natural reef.

Mirador de Jardina – Tenerife

Inside the Anaga Rural Park, this viewpoint offers a wonderful panoramic view of the western side of Tenerife, where you can see the fields, the small villages, the city of La Laguna in the distance and, depending on the weather conditions, the impressive figure of Mount Teide on the horizon.

Mirador de Chipeque – Tenerife

From this viewpoint you can also enjoy a sunset with a unique background: Mount Teide surrounded by mist and clouds.

Punta de Teno – Tenerife

In the middle of volcanic rocks, cactus and next to a small lighthouse, you will be able to contemplate the perfect contrasts between the blue of the ocean and the pinkish tones left by the sun while it sets in the most western point of the island.

Teide Volcano – Tenerife

We can think of nothing better than enjoying a sunset from a view at 3555 metres above sea level. Are you in? 😉

Other places in the Canary Islands where you can marvel at the beautiful sunsets are: Caleta de Famara in Lanzarote, Valle Gran Rey in La Gomera and La Restinga Marine Reserve, Mar de las Calmas in El Hierro.
