Canarian Museum

Canarian Museum

The Canarian Museum is located in the Vegueta neighborhood, in Palmas de Gran Canaria. Through its permanent exhibition and its 11 rooms, you will get a glimpse of the life of the inhabitants before the Castilian conquest, in the 15th century. You will discover their settlements, economic activities, natural resources, culture and religion. You will also find a temporal exhibition room. This museum, thanks to its archeological, documental and library collections is a referent for researchers.

La Casa de Colón

La Casa de Colón

In Palmas de Gran Canaria, in the well-known neighborhood of Vegueta, you will find La Casa de ColónCasa de Colón. This building emerges from the union of several housings from the XVIII, XIX and XXth centuries. A big landmark of the island, it was in fact at one point the house of the governor and it is said that the very Cristobal Colón (Christopher Columbus) visited it during its first voyage to America in 1492, hence its name. Through its 13 rooms you will discover the architecture, painting, cartography, navigation instruments, nautical charts and many other documents exemplifying the relation of Gran Canaria with America.

Cueva Pintada Museum and archaeological park

Cueva Pintada Museum and archaeological park

If you like architecture, the Cueva Pintada museum and archaeological park is a must visit. Here you will find one of the most emblematic archaeological sites of the island. The Cueva Pintada, discovered more than a century ago, is an artificial cave excavated in the volcanic limestone and its interior is full of cave art. After 24 years of archaeological excavations, an impressive settlement was found around it, with a total of 60 stone dwellings. A unique and special opportunity to discover this island.

Elder Science and Technology Museum

Elder Science and Technology Museum

The Elder Science and Technology Museum is another one of the many charms of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Found in the district of Las Canteras, it stands out by its interactive and didactic nature, hence its motto “Forbidden not to touch”. Its 4.500 m2 hosts different exhibitions, some of them temporal, and a screening room with a big format cinema screen. The ideal space to enter the world of science and technology. Young ones will enjoy the museum, with its workshops and special activities, conceived for them.

Pérez Galdós House Museum

Pérez Galdós House Museu

The renowned writer Benito Pérez Galdós is one of the distinguished figures of the island. The house he lived in until 1862 is now a museum exemplifying the canarian domestic architecture of the XIXth century. The Pérez Galdós House Museum opened its doors in 1964, a three floors building located in the neighborhood of Triana built around two central patios. The different rooms are an example of a domestic and homely environment with works of art, photographs, furniture, decorations, musical instruments, etc. Within the house you will find the Galdosian Studies Center, which hosts the writer’s documents and bibliographic collection, different rooms with temporal exhibitions and spaces dedicated to conferences and reunions.

Tomás Morales House Museum

Tomás Morales House Museum

Tomás Morales is another prominent figure of the island. This famous poet, born in 1884, was a scholar of Modernism that drove forward the Spanish contemporary poetry thanks to his volume “The Roses of Hercules”. The museum can be found in the town of Moya, in his family home, where you will take a tour of the poet’s life through the different rooms and learn about not only his literary work but also about his most human and personal side. You will gain knowledge about the historical and literary context in which he developed his activity and how the island influenced his work.
