Water activities

One of the main attractions of the Dominican Republic is undoubtedly the sea, with its warm waters that vary from turquoise to emerald or even deep blue, depending on the area.

For this reason, today, we would like to recommend 7 water-based activities so that you can enjoy the experience to the full.

Activities you can do on your next visit to the beautiful Quisqueya.

1.Go on a whale watching excursion

Whale watching

From January to mid-March (approximately, there may be variations depending on the year), humpback whales stop in the Bay of Samaná on their migration route.

These impressive animals come to the warm waters of the bay because, in addition to the temperature, they are shallow, which facilitates and encourages reproduction and calving.

This is why, on excursions to observe them, we can see mothers playing with their calves or males displaying their strength with impressive leaps. It’s an unforgettable adventure.

2.Discover the underwater world by scuba diving

Explore the underwater world

Diving into the water and discovering the wonderful underwater world hidden in the Dominican Republic is a beautiful experience.

Corals, tropical fish, turtles, sunken ships, walls… it’s all there for you to see.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a PADI licence, you can get one at the water sports centre in our hotels. You get one free trial per stay per person in our pool, so you can experience the sensation of being underwater without having to worry about coming up for air every few minutes.

If you already have your PADI qualification, don’t forget to bring it with you. Whatever your level, there are excursions for everyone.

3.Grab your mask, snorkel and fins and go snorkelling

Snorkelling

If you want to see colourful fish but don’t feel ready for diving, snorkelling is the best option.

Our destination also hides wonderful spots where you can snorkel with your mask, snorkel and fins and enjoy the underwater world, but closer to the surface, making this activity more accessible for families.

4.Not afraid of heights: go parasailing and fly

Parasailing

An activity for the most daring! You can try it alone or with a friend.

You are attached to a parachute connected to a speedboat, and when the speedboat picks up speed, the parachute raises up in the air and you ascend until you are flying through the sky with a bird’s eye view of the Bávaro coast.

You can do this from the beaches at our Princess Punta Cana hotels. For more information, please contact our water sports centre.

5.Take a boat trip along the coast

Boat trip

A wonderful activity for everyone, whether you are with friends, your partner, your family or just feel like having a bit of a party! You can organise a party boat trip along the Bávaro coastline, with music, drinks and dancing until you reach the natural swimming pool, where you can continue the fun.

There are also quieter options including boat trips with more family-friendly activities, such as snorkelling. The good thing about this is that it is a half-day trip, so you can spend most of the day at the hotel.

Also, this activity takes place off the coast of our Princess Punta Cana hotels, so there is no need to travel far.

6.Swim with sharks and manta rays

Swim with sharks and manta rays

This is a wonderful and exciting supervised adrenaline activity. Although it sounds shocking, don’t worry, it’s all under control!

You can swim among graceful manta rays and fearsome sharks, but you should know that these are nurse sharks, they are calm and pose no threat to humans.

However, as always, we recommend that any interaction with these animals is done with the utmost care and respect, following the instructions of the professionals.

7.Feel the speed at sea: speed boat

Speed boat

Speed over the waves! This is a fun excursion that will make you feel like the star of an action film!

There are several options:

  • One of these is off the coast of Bávaro, where two people can take a boat with a professional guide and cruise the waters at high speed in groups of boats.
  • Another way to enjoy high speeds at sea is to go on an excursion to Saona Island or Catalina Island, where you can take a trip on a catamaran with music and a party atmosphere.

And the best thing about all these ideas is that we have an area in the Princess Hotels in Punta Cana where you can meet with different tour operators to organise your excursions. You can also book them online via the following link: https: //princess.nexustours.com/services/

You can also go to our water sports centres on the beach at each of our hotels, where you can also get advice on these water activities.

If you enjoyed this post and would like to try some of these fun activities, let us know in the comments! We want to hear from you!
