Our Divine Providence Nursing Home

Last 7th of September Princess Hotels in the Dominican Republic had the honour of visiting, as we do every year, Our Divine Providence Nursing Home in Higüey, a loving, caring centre that offers shelter for elderly people in vulnerable situations.

This noble institution is sustained by the tireless efforts of nuns and volunteers and is overseen by an extraordinary person, Sister Ciriaca, a woman who, on every visit, shows us the true meaning of the vocation of service, kindness, humility and generosity in its purest, most absolute form.

In the hearts of each and every one of the employees in our hotels there resides an ongoing commitment to the community around us, and while all our campaigns are significant, there is no doubt that the visit to the nursing home is particularly moving.

This is why, year after year, we come together as a team in an effort to offer donations that make a tangible difference in the lives of the residents.

These efforts are possible thanks to the generosity of our employees, the kindness of our esteemed customers, and the invaluable collaboration of the organisation “Pack for a Purpose”, who inspire future Punta Cana tourists to arrive with gifts for the community in their suitcases.

Together we create a constant influx of donations ranging from towels and sheets to non-perishable foodstuffs or cleaning products and personal hygiene items for our elderly, who receive them with more enthusiasm and affection every year that passes.

Hearts full of joy

Whenever we arrive at the residence the first thing that always trikes us is the impeccable cleanliness and care with which the place is maintained. But what really fills our hearts was the dedication and care we observe in every corner.

The volunteers work tirelessly to offer love and care to our elderly on a daily basis. The atmosphere in the residence feels like an extended family, in which service, solidarity and respect are values that guide every action.

Visiting these elderly people is an enriching experience that deeply touches the soul of each and every one of the volunteers who bring gifts and donations. Every smile, every story shared and every gesture of gratitude reminds us of the importance of our mission.

In our minds we can still hear the words of all those grandmothers and grandfathers who, despite their advanced age, sill love to tell us their stories and experiences with affection and surprising good humour, even laughing at their age-related ailments and health issues.

When the times comes the only thing we wish for when we leave is to be able to see their faces again the following year and not miss any of those smiles, those trembling, tender hands, those kind eyes that always welcome us as if we were the most eagerly-awaited visit of the year.

If you’re planning a trip to any of our hotels in Punta Cana we encourage you to pack a little love in your suitcase. It doesn’t matter when you travel, as we save everything until the time comes for us to make the donation.

What can you donate? Towels, sheets, basic first aid items, first-aid-kit items, non-perishable edibles, cleaning products for the residence or personal hygiene items for our beloved grandparents.

These can be handed in at the customer services department located in each of the main lobbies of our Punta Cana hotels. We will make sure your donations go directly to the Higüey nursing home, where they will be received with open arms and infinite gratitude.

Dear friends, in the nursing home in Higüey, even the smallest act of love can change lives. Donating is also an enriching experience and reminds us of the importance of sharing our affection with those most in need. Together, we can make the world a warmer, more loving place.
