Meet Sulma in her own words
Can you give us a brief description of yourself?
Hello, my name is Sulma Islas. I’m part of the sales department and I am currently employed as Weddings & Group Manager.
Being a woman in the hotel industry has been a career full of challenges, learning, and, above all, growth.
I consider myself a passionate, creative and resilient person who loves learning, which is why I obtained my master’s degree in digital business; just one of the qualities I have cultivated throughout my more than twelve years’ experience in large international hotel chains, and continue to do in Princess hotels.
Where are you from and how long have you been working at this hotel?
I’m from Mexico City and I’m about to complete two years at Princess Riviera Maya.
What do you value most about your work?
What I value most about my work is the creative process, where I transform challenging and innovative ideas into unique experiences that bring the vision of the Weddings & Groups Department to life.
In your day-to-day work, how do you put into practice or contribute to the hotel’s social and environmental responsibility plan?
In the Weddings Department we are aware of our responsibility to the environment, which is why we are committed to protecting our beaches and natural areas, ensuring that all the elements used in our weddings are respectful of the environment. We work exclusively with natural resources and do not allow the use of artificial flowers, balloons or plastics, which can affect the beauty and balance of our beaches.
What is your favourite place on the Riviera Maya, and in the hotel?
My favourite place in the area is Contoy Island, and my favourite place in the hotel is the Riviera Gazebo.
What would you recommend to someone visiting us, something they really shouldn’t miss?
Something you really shouldn’t miss at the Grand Riviera Princess is watching the sunrise from the Chill Out restaurant, then enjoying the day at the beach club.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Being part of the Princess family is a source of pride for me, but what really makes this experience special is the incredible team we have put together in the Weddings & Group Department. Together we have created more than just events; we have created unforgettable moments on the basis of passion, commitment and teamwork. I am very happy to have shared this journey with such dedicated people. Let’s continue to work our magic together.
