Negresco Princess and Barcelona Princess hotels in Barcelona have been awarded the Biosphere Sustainable Lifestyle certification.

The label, managed by Barcelona City Council’s Department of Tourism in collaboration with the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and the Barcelona Tourism Consortium, aims to extend the culture of sustainable tourism to the city’s businesses and services.

The Biosphere Sustainable Lifestyle certification recognises the sustainable initiatives implemented by the two urban hotels belonging to the Princess Hotels & Resorts chain, as well as their ongoing work based on a dynamic business sustainability management plan. To obtain this award, Negresco Princess and Barcelona Princess have demonstrated their contribution to the achievement of the 17 SDGs, the 169 targets of the 2030 Agenda and the three areas of sustainability in a comprehensive and holistic manner.

Santiago Hernández Zayas, Director of Barcelona Princess, was present at the certification ceremony, which took place on 22 March at the Barcelona International Convention Centre. He was accompanied by Judith Sala, Deputy Director of Barcelona Princess, Jairo Mayolas, Director of Negresco Princess, as well as Lorena Aguilera, Head of Administration, and Daniela Alves, also from the Administration Department, both of whom are responsible for the Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability policies of the Princess Hotels & Resorts urban hotels.

Santiago Hernández Zayas, Director General of the two hotels, said: “We believe that adapting to the needs of the environment and trying to reduce the impact of our activities is our responsibility. We are very proud of all of the small changes and corporate social responsibility actions that we have undertaken, and we are convinced that there are many more to be implemented.”

During this edition, a total of 403 certifications were awarded, 121 of them to new members such as Negresco Princess and Barcelona Princess, with the category of tourist establishments being the most sensitive to the creation of a tourist community that respects the environment, culture and socio-economic returns.
