Via our Princess and You 360 social responsibility programme, we participate in social projects that contribute to improving our environment.

On this occasion we joined the cause by putting together a team and cleaning the beaches in our area, thereby helping to do our bit for the environment.

Beach clean-up

The 16th of September was World Beaches Day, a date dedicated to raising awareness regarding the importance of preserving and maintaining our precious coastal ecosystems.

While beach clean-up activities were held in many parts of the world on that day, at the Platinum Yucatan Princess Hotel the celebration was postponed until the 7th of October due to logistical considerations and high occupancy. Despite the delay the hotel team were keen to join the global cause.

The initiative brought together 31 staff members from various departments, including spa, entertainment, administration, human resources, front desk, food and beverage, quality, concierge, maintenance and stewards.

The diversity of skills and talents in this group ensured an effective and meaningful clean-up day that covered not just the beaches but also other green spaces and mangroves.

Protecting the environment

Over the course of the clean-up day the Platinum Yucatan Princess Hotel team collected a total of 150 kg of rubbish, a figure that demonstrates the importance of this type of continuous effort in terms of keeping our beaches and natural areas in tip-top condition.

The rubbish collected included a variety of debris including plastics, glass, cigarette butts and other objects that can prove harmful to marine life and the environment.

The activity also strengthened the hotel team’s collaborative spirit and commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. It was a reminder that when we join forces to care for our planet we can achieve significant results and make the world a better place for future generations.

The Benefits of Keeping Beaches and Green Spaces Clean

Cleaning beaches and green spaces is a shared responsibility that we must all assume if we are to protect our coastal environment and continue to enjoy nature for many years to come.

Here are some of the reasons why beach cleaning is such a valuable task:

• Sustainable Tourism: Cleaning helps keep the beaches beautiful and attractive to tourists, which is critical to the local economy and tourism industry.
