The 6 best plans with friends in Riviera Maya

By | 3 January, 2023 | 0 comments

Holidays with friends in

Riviera Maya is a tourist destination in Mexico, located on the Caribbean coast, in the state of Quintana Roo. It is rated as one of the most important tourist destinations in the world.

You will struggle to find any other area with such a large number of tourist attractions that offer such unforgettable experiences.

If you have not yet had the opportunity to visit this famous destination, we recommend that you seriously consider it for your next holiday, and rest assured that you will create fun and treasured memories with your friends.

Here are some of the best things to do in Riviera Maya:

1. Experience Xcaret Park

iviera Maya

One of the activities you can’t miss is a visit to Xcaret Park, where you and your friends will enjoy the perfect combination of nature, water and adventure activities.

This amazing tourist attraction is set in a coastal jungle and has a cove and underground rivers where you can swim and snorkel. In addition, you can enjoy watching majestic felines at Jaguar Island.

A butterfly pavilion and coral aquarium also feature on the list of activities and, if that’s not enough, you’ll have the opportunity to swim with sharks, dolphins, rays and other marine species.

Last but not least, through the exhibitions at Xcaret, you can learn about the past of the inhabitants of the region and the country, as well as about Mexican traditions. These include the Mayan ball game, the ritual of the Voladores, the pirekua song, Mexican rodeos and mariachi.

♦ Xcaret Park is only half an hour away from our Princess Riviera Maya hotels.

2. Explore the Tulum Ruins

Xcaret Park

Tulum is a historic Mayan site that has been preserved in pristine condition.

It is an ideal place to visit with your friends, where you will find around sixty structures dating from the 12th to the 15th centuries.

Tulum was a place of great importance for two reasons:

  • It was considered one of the few Mayan port cities with a wall that functioned as a fortress as a defence against enemies.
  • It was also one of the main Mayan trading ports.

Buildings such as the Castle, the Temple of the Frescoes and the Temple of the Descending God were used for ceremonial practices and are certainly symbolic places not to be missed in your photos with friends.

♦ Tulum is an hour away from our Princess Riviera Maya hotels.

3. Snorkelling in Akumal

Tulum Ruins

As a historical fact, it has been known for centuries that Akumal was given the name the “Place of the Turtle”, because this is where this marine species is born, grows and reproduces.

This idyllic location also has rivers that flow through more than 200 caves.

You can also enjoy the Yal-kú cove, which is where subterranean waters meet the crystalline waters of the Caribbean Sea. We definitely recommend a visit here!

Together with your friends, you will be able to admire a wide variety of fish of all colours, sizes and shapes. There is also a cenote near this area, where you can also spend a pleasant time diving.

♦ You can get to Akumal in 45 minutes from our Princess Riviera Maya hotels.

4. Catch the first rays of sunshine in Mexico

Snorkelling in Akumal

At Punta Sur, on the southern tip of Isla Mujeres, there’s a viewpoint with beautiful cliffs where you can admire the best sunrises over the Caribbean Sea.

This spot is the first place in the whole of Mexico to be touched by sunlight every day. There is also a statue dedicated to the goddess Ixchel and Mayan ruins in this area.

You will be able to take some amazing photos here that you can keep as a souvenir forever.

♦ This site is 2 and a half hours from our Princess Riviera Maya hotels.

5. Visit monkeys in their habitat

First rays of sunshine in Mexico

Punta Laguna is a nature reserve managed by the local people, and the main function is the conservation of the area, and to generate an income for the community through their work.

You can visit the reserve with a guide who will explain everything about spider and howler monkeys, and you can follow them along the trails and observe their behaviour in the wild. There is also a lagoon with various activities such as kayaking and zip-lining. It is well worth a visit.

♦ Punta Laguna is an hour and a half from our Princess Riviera Maya hotels.

6. Enjoy an exceptional dinner with friends

At Princess Riviera Maya hotels, we offer various options to take you on a superior culinary experience, suitable for all guests who enjoy these hedonistic pleasures.

Visit our Chill Out or Skylights restaurants and you’ll be amazed by the choices on offer.

As you can see, the Mexican Caribbean offers a wide range of activities, which can be tailored to your friends’ preferences to ensure a memorable, fun and unique day out.

If you come to Riviera Maya, we recommend that you stay in one of our hotels, such as Platinum Yucatán Princess (where you can enjoy an adults-only environment) or Grand Sunset Princess.

Do you like any of our recommended activities? We would like to hear about your experiences or your plans for your holiday in Riviera Maya.
