“Cultura Viva” is one of the cultural promotion actions undertaken by the hotel #NegrescoesCultura.

Beginning in February the windows of the corner of Negresco Princess will be adorned with the mural “Living Culture” designed by Catalan artist Alícia Ferreiro, a student of the Elisava Barcelona Faculty of Design and Engineering.

Since its inauguration Negresco Princess has maintained close ties with Barcelona culture by offering leisure alternatives such as live music, conferences, screenings and temporary installations in its facilities under the label #negrescoescultura.

“The power of culture to bring people together and its contribution to people’s emotional wellbeing is unquestionable, which is why we try our best to keep cultural activities in various disciplines and styles active. With regard to this mural, we are very happy to once again offer our windows to new Elisava artists and we feel very well represented by the work created by Alícia Ferreiro” says Jairo Mayolas, director of Negresco Princess, who reminds us that this is the second time they have developed actions in conjunction with the Elisava school, with whom they have maintained a close relationship for years, more specifically with artist Javier Navarro, better known as El Dios de los Tres, supervisor of the school’s Master’s Course in Illustration and Visual Narrative.

On this occasion the mural selected by Negresco Princess is a piece created by Alícia Ferrero, which occupies all the windows in the lobby area and the hotel restaurant, located at the intersection of Calle Roger de Llúria and Calle Caspe.

The illustration, titled “Cultura Viva” (Living Culture), is a large-format tourist guide to the city that features such representative elements of Catalan culture and gastronomy as the Sagrada Familia, the cable car, the iconic rosettes on the tiles, the roses of Sant Jordi, pa amb tomàquet (tomato bread), calçots (a type of scallion) and vermouth.

In terms of design, the illustrations are dominated by geometric figures and vibrant colours, so their presence will be visible from any point at the intersection.

Students at Elisava, Alícia Navarro, Martí Sanchis, Juan Camilo Pedrada, Andrea Balam, Fiorella Briz and Laura García Arias, overseen by el Dios de los Tres, who is accustomed to creating large-format murals on glass and other surfaces, took part in the execution of the work.

The activity is sponsored by the brand Montana Colors, which has provided all the necessary materials for its development.
