8 scenic spots in Gran Canaria for a selfie

By | 22 March, 2021 | 0 comments

The island of Gran Canaria is waiting for you to discover thousands of scenic spots and unique places which deserve a memorable selfie

From north to south and east to west, the scenic spots in Gran Canaria are a sight for sore eyes and for your followers when they see the amazing photos you can take on this magnificent island.

A Gran Canaria view from up high

The first stop is at one of the island’s highest points, and one of the most scenic spots in Gran Canaria. At over 1,800 metres we have Roque Nublo, one of the most impressive stone monoliths in the world. To reach the base, you just need to stroll along a route which offers fantastic views of the La Culata ravine and the Tejeda basin. In under two kilometres you’ll reach the base of the monolith. If the weather is clear, you’ll be lucky enough to take a magnificent photo of Roque Nublo with the Teide in the background. A Gran Canaria view which will leave you speechless.

And from the sky we’ll descend to the sea. From a leafy setting to a desert setting, but with the vast sea as a backdrop. The Maspalomas dunes are one of the most famous scenic spots in Gran Canaria. Forming a sea of sand at the south of the island, Maspalomas is the ideal place to spend an enjoyable day at the beach overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. One of the key features of this corner of the island is its climate. During winter it does not drop below 20 degrees, and in summer it reaches 30. The Maspalomas dunes also have a moving sand area which changes depending on the wind, and another fixed area which looks the same all year round. The perfect setting for a selfie. If you want to spend a few days on this beautiful and welcoming side of the island, the Maspalomas Princess offers an incredible leisure and service offering for a dream stay. Everything you need to enjoy a luxury stay and the charms of this Canary island.

We continue our journey through the south of Gran Canaria for another must-visit: Puerto de Mogán. This friendly small fishing village and its sailboats and white houses with pretty flower-filled balconies are a welcoming sight. This lovely scenic spot in Gran Canaria is known as Little Venice due to the unusual canals running through the streets. You’ll find the perfect backdrop at any of these pretty floral houses for a happy and colourful photo.

The capital’s hidden beauty

The city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria also hides some spots which deserve a nice photo. The historic Vegueta district, declared a Historic Artistic Site, is known for its colonial black stone architecture, creating a unique set of streets in the capital. Casa de Colón or the Santa Ana cathedral are two of its most famous buildings which you should visit and photograph.

But if you want to spend the day close to the sea, you can’t visit the island without experiencing one of Spain’s top urban beaches: Las Canteras beach. And there are plenty of reasons to do so. Las Canteras enjoys good weather almost all year round; it is the perfect getaway if you want to escape the traffic jams and hustle and bustle of the city. The sea floor is home to thousands of fish which can even be seen from the shore due to the clear water. And it is one of the beaches where there are always plenty of surfers eager to catch a wave. A unique corner of the island which deserves to be in your photo gallery.

A fashionable photo in Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria’s scenery offers some of the most instagrammable spots you can find. Barranco de las Vacas, in Agüimes, has become a must-visit for photography lovers, with its peculiar rocky formations known as Tobas de Colores. These rocks are very similar to the famous Antelope Canyon in the United States, something which has made this site a must-visit for people keen on curious and unique landscapes. You can access the Tobas de Colores via a leafy path which contrasts with the arid landscape of the rocks.

Returning to the centre of the island, nestled in nature, surrounded by the huge Canary Island pine forests, there’s another spot which deserves to be photographed. The Cruz de Tejeda, which marks the geographic centre of the island, offers spectacular views and an unmissable scenic spot in Gran Canaria. Its routes are ideal for a day out walking, enjoying the fresh air and the leafy vegetation of this area, to end a day dining at one of its smart restaurants and buying a typical souvenir of the area.
We finish our journey in the west of the island. In an area with countless cliffs, there is a striking viewpoint which deserves a visit and a selfie. It is the breathtaking Mirador del Balcón in Aldea de San Nicolás. This spectacular spot is perfect for seeing the “dragon’s tail”, a long, rugged wall of zigzag cliffs trailing along the coast which look just like the creature’s tail.
