Negresco Princess and Barcelona Princess Hotels launch a new initiative designed to promote sustainable practices by reducing food waste.

The campaign, headed by the general manager of Princess Hotels, Santiago Hernandez, aims to inspire guests and staff to adopt more conscious consumption habits during their stay.

In line with their sustainability and social responsibility policies, the hotels are committed to further reducing their impact by engaging their guests in a more responsible and environmentally friendly dining experience through the use of local, seasonal and fair trade products, coupled with a communication campaign encouraging them to minimise waste.

“Caring for the environment and providing exceptional experiences for our guests are fundamental pillars of our philosophy,” says Santiago Hernandez. “We are committed to reducing food waste and to do this we must encourage our guests to be more aware and act accordingly.

In addition, it is important to highlight that we collaborate with suppliers committed to social causes and work closely with local non-governmental organisations and groups at risk of social exclusion, ensuring that every product offered at the hotel has a positive effect on the community.

Food waste is a global problem that affects not only natural resources, but also the most vulnerable people and communities Did you know that a third of the food produced in the world is wasted? In Spain, 1.2 million tonnes of food were wasted in 2021. An average hotel throws away between 25,000 and 33,000 kilos of food per year (70-90 kilos of food per day), which is equivalent to: 131,040 KG of CO2 and 204 million litres of water.

That’s why this year, as part of our commitment to sustainability, we want to invite you to participate in our Love Food, Stop Waste initiative, where we will share simple tips on meal planning, portion consciousness, food appreciation and environmental responsibility.

“We believe that every small action counts, and we are excited to be able to inspire our guests to adopt more responsible food practices during their stay at our hotel,” said Santiago Hernandez.”Together, we can make a difference and contribute to a more sustainable future for all.
