10 Things you shouldn’t forget when packing for the Riviera Maya

By | 10 October, 2023 | 0 comments

Travel bag

The moment you’ve been waiting for is finally here: your Riviera Maya holiday is right around the corner!

It’s time to fulfil your dreams on beautiful white sandy beaches, exploring the rainforest and immersing yourself in the region’s vibrant culture. But before you board that plane to paradise you need to pack your suitcase carefully.

We’re here to help you pack efficiently and ensure you don’t forget any essentials. So, without further ado, here’s a list of the 10 things you can’t forget in your suitcase if you wish to make the most of your Riviera Maya adventure.

1. Broad Spectrum Sunscreen

Sunscreen

The Riviera Maya is a very popular holiday destination, and one of the biggest reasons for this is its wonderful bright sunshine.

That said, it is important to take precautions as the area receives a lot of UV radiation due to its location, so it is important to use sunscreen with protection factor of at least 30, even if the day is cloudy.

Protecting your skin is essential if you want to enjoy the sun without worrying.

2. Bathing Suit

Bathing suit

And as you well know, another of the reasons for the popularity of the Yucatan Peninsula as a tourist destination is its beautiful beaches, and if there is one essential you simply must have in your suitcase, it’s a bathing suit.

Whether it’s a bikini, a one-piece, or whatever… take your favourite swimwear out of the wardrobe and enjoy a plunge, either at the beach or in one of the pools of our Princess Riviera Maya hotels.

We recommend you pack more than one bathing suit so you always have a dry one ready to wear.

3. Light, Cool Clothing

Light and cool clothing

The Riviera Maya has a tropical climate with warm, sunny temperatures all year round.

That is why it is important to bring comfortable, cool clothes that allow you to enjoy outdoor activities, such as dresses, cotton t-shirts and shorts. This type of clothing will also help you to avoid sweating and discomfort.

Remember to choose light-coloured clothing that reflects the sunlight.

4. Comfortable Footwear

Comfortable footwear

If you’re going to visit some of the Riviera Maya’s most popular tourist attractions, like the Mayan ruins or the jungle, you’ll need comfortable footwear.

Trainers or hiking boots will do just fine, as long as the soles have good grip and are slip-resistant.

Also, don’t forget a pair of sandals for the beach and pool.

5. Insect Repellent

Insect repellent

Due to the tropical climate, the Riviera Maya jungle is home to some annoying insects.

Take a good insect repellent with you to keep you protected while exploring.

Some extra tips to avoid insect bites in Mexico:

  • On occasion, in areas where there are large numbers of insects, wear clothing that covers most of your skin.
  • And avoid exposure to mosquitoes during the middle of the day, when they are most active.
  • Apply repellent to all exposed areas, on dry skin, and more frequently if you sweat or are immersed in water.

6. Reusable Water Bottle

Reusable water bottle

In order to stay hydrated after many hours in the sun, you’ll need a bottle of water with you at all times.

Dehydration can cause health problems like fatigue and dizziness, so don’t forget to drink regularly.

Also, if you bring a reusable bottle, besides being able to refill it with purified water at our Princess Riviera Maya resorts, you’ll be helping the environment.

7. Snorkel and Goggles

Snorkel and goggles

The Riviera Maya is a paradise for snorkel and dive lovers. Bringing your own gear will allow you to explore the coral reefs and cenotes in maximum comfort.

With your own gear you’ll be able to observe the fish and marine plants up close while marvelling at the landscapes that awaits you in the underwater world.

8. Camera and Chargers

Camera and chargers

When you go on holiday to the Yucatan Peninsula you’ll want to capture the magic moments so you’ll be able to relive them forever.

Be sure to bring your camera so you can share those memories with friends and family at a later date.

And don’t forget your battery, and chargers!

9. Waterproof

Waterproof

The Caribbean climate brings rain all year round, and it’s also quite unpredictable.

The rains can be heavy and last for several hours, so packing a waterproof will allow you to continue enjoying your holiday or excursion.

A lightweight waterproof jacket is best, so you can carry it with you in any available niche in your backpack or suitcase.

10. Important Documentation

Documentation

And finally, though it may seem obvious, don’t forget to bring your important documentation with you, such as:

  • Passport: this is the most important, and it must be valid for at least 6 months.
  • Visa: if you are a citizen of a country that requires a visa to enter Mexico, you must apply for one in advance.
  • Travel insurance: this is very important for international trips as it can help cover medical expenses, loss of luggage, etc.
  • Cash: we advise you to carry a small amount of cash for small expenses that may arise in places that do not accept credit card payments.
  • Hotel reservations: if you don’t want to be left without a room, remember to book in advance, at Princess Hotels Riviera Maya we’re getting everything ready to make your stay unforgettable.

All set? With this list of 10 essentials for your suitcase you’ll be ready to enjoy an unforgettable experience in Riviera Maya.

At Princess Hotels we look forward to welcoming you and making sure you have the perfect holiday in this Caribbean paradise. Enjoy to the fullest and let yourself be carried away by the beauty and magic of the Riviera Maya!
